Wildfires, which pose an immense threat to both communities and ecosystems, have garnered significant attention in recent times. Thanks to the brave efforts of wildland firefighters equipped with the best turnout gear and PPE, the people living in affected areas can be better protected from the devastating effects of these blazes. Despite their heroic efforts, however, wildfires frequently inflict massive damage on inhabited areas, resulting in the loss of homes and businesses.

Unlike natural causes such as lightning or lava, nearly 85% of wildfires in the United States are caused by people.

In order to prevent such disasters, it is crucial that we all remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to avoid starting fires in the first place.

The latest figures from the National Interagency Fire Center are certainly a cause for concern. It is alarming to note that from January 1 to July 27 of 2021, there have already been 36,796 wildfires reported, which is a significant increase from the 30,760 wildfires documented during the same period last year. But what’s even more distressing is that the number of acres consumed by the fires has also spiked.

In 2021, a staggering 2.8 million acres have been ravaged by the blazes compared to 1.9 million in 2020. The gravity of these wildfires cannot be overstated, as it has not only affected the environment and wildlife but has also claimed human lives, leaving communities to face the aftermath of this widespread destruction.

It is a sobering reminder of the importance of taking necessary precautions and measures to prevent and manage wildfires, especially during these times when the risks of wildfire outbreaks are high.
